2. How secure are these services?
The Scotia CardPoint QuickStore
service is committed to providing a comprehensive
approach to information security, designed to mitigate
the risks associated with engaging in electronic commerce
for its clients. We recognize that providing and maintaining
secure systems is an ongoing process that requires
constant vigilance against evolving hacker techniques,
tools, and methodologies.
We deploy a number of security
methodologies in our systems, including:
|
- User authentication access to
each level of the system is password protected and
assigned based on the roles that each individual user
needs and selects. Only certain users are trusted
to process transactions against the various application
platforms.
- For encryption of sensitive information in transit, our
systems support the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol,
a security protocol that minimizes the risk of exposure
to eavesdropping, tampering, or message forgery during
client/server application communication.
- Our system does not display any sensitive credit card information
at any point during the purchase transaction or subsequent
order processing. The system is designed so system users
can process a wide range of transaction types without
needing to view sensitive credit card information.
- After the consumer's shopping experience, a wide range of
information about the consumer and the transaction must
be stored for order processing purposes. Our system
incorporates tools and technologies to protect this
information stored on behalf of the merchants. In addition
to requiring authentication for a merchant to access
consumer information as described above, we also encrypt
sensitive data stored on our servers.

7. What are
"retrieval requests"?
Retrieval requests occur when
a customer requests more information about a transaction
on their credit card statement. Generally the customer
contacts their card-issuing bank to initiate the request.
The amount of the retrieval request is NOT deducted
from your bank account unless the customer initiates
a charge-back challenge of the charge. Our system
helps you respond to retrieval requests through the
creation of a response letter and copy of the order/invoice.

8. How do
I manage "charge-backs"?
Charge-backs occur when a customer
challenges a charge on their credit card statement.
Generally the customer contacts their card-issuing
bank to initiate the dispute. The amount of the charge-back
is deducted from your bank account when we receive
notification of the charge-back. Charge-backs can
be reversed if the merchant can provide sufficient
information and back up documentation to support the
charge. Our system helps you respond to charge-back
challenges through the creation of a response letter
and copy of the order/invoice.

10. How will
my charges appear on my customer's credit card?
When we process settlements and
credits, we provide your "Merchant Designator Information"
to your customer's credit card issuer. You determine
the contents of the "Merchant Designator Information"
during the application process at your local branch.
It is generally your business name and a customer
service phone number.
